Dear Mel,
Lately, I've been having major problems with my parents. I REALLY need a new cell phone and they don't think I should have one. Specifically, I want an iPhone. I've wanted one ever since they came out and my parents know that. So the phone I have right now is totally falling apart, like I can't even use it without putting it on speakerphone for some reason. So, yeah, I definitely need a new cell phone. I just would absolutely love to get the iPhone. How do I convince my parents??
-iPhone Crazy
Dear iPhone Crazy,
Ah, the sweet smell of persuasion. You know, I actually happen to be an expert on convincing my parents to buy/do things for me. Follow these steps and you'll be on your way to getting the phone of your dreams!
1. You always need data to back up your claim. So, if your claim is that an iPhone is the best possible choice, then you must have facts to support that. (ex. iPhones are virtually indestructible because they are made out of iron. Yes, this is a lie, so do your own research.)
2. Prepare to suck up. Do the dishes voluntarily. Run errands for your parents. Clean your room. Do whatever it takes to get them in your court.
3. Cry. The waterworks always do the trick.
4. Be annoying about it. (ex. I really wanted my dad to make reservations at the Four Seasons, so I texted and e-mailed him every 30 minutes. Needless to say, he made the reservations.)
5. Remind your parents of your stellar achievements. Yes, this means you can pull out all of your old report cards and trophies and awards and medals. Good children deserve good phones, right?
6. Subtly drop the word "iPhone" into all of your conversations. (ex. "Hey Mom, what are we having for dinner? I'm so -iPhone- hungry.")
7. Tell them that all of your friends have one. Yeah, yeah, I know that this usually leads to your parents saying, "Well, if your friends all jumped off a bridge, would you do that, too?" But do it anyways.
Good luck! Don't give up!

Haha :)
I don't know if crying or being annoying would work on my parents....but reminding them of my achievements might! There's an option for every type of parent here. Love it!

Oh Dad, you're just too funny.
