How to get over PCD (Post Christmas Depression)

Dear Mel,

Christmas is my absolute favorite holiday and now that it's over I just feel so sad. Usually I'm fine when it ends and I just look forward to New Years. So I'm not sure why I'm so upset about this. I just miss my family being here and everyone being so happy. It's not even about the presents because that would be stupid. Anyways I just need advice on what to do to help me feel better. Thanks!

Dear Missing Christmas,

Ah, PCD. Post Christmas Depression. Many years ago, I diagnosed myself with this terrible disease. You see, I am a Christmas nut. I love EVERYTHING about the season: Gingerbread houses, 93.9's Holiday Lite, sugarplum fairies, snow, wrapping presents, opening presents, bright lights, trees, decorations, cookie decorating, family, pumpkin pie, dressing up, bells, A Christmas Story, and so much more. Every year, I get really sad when Dec. 26th hits. I cry, I whine, I cry some more.
But, this year, I found a great solution to help me get over my PCD faster. I simply composed a list of all of the things that I'm doing in the next few months. For example, one of the items on my list said this: In January, American Idol starts up again. (I'm crazy about that show!) Making this list will remind you of all the other exciting things going on in your life.
Of course, I still feel a tingling of sadness every now and then, but that is expected. Don't worry; before you know it, you'll stop missing the holidays and focus on what's next.

I disagree. Taking them down will help you forget about how much you miss it. When I was young, we always took the tree down right after x-mas. And lights of course.

    I miss Christmas too. :(

my tree is still up an it's january 15th.my parents weren't over during the holidays to see my tree so i left it up and they'll see it this weekend.i just can't take it down til they see it/.no closure to christmas if i do.and i also feel very down since christmas has passed.i'm still seing christmas lights on some of the houses in the area.kind of nice really to see chrisms lights here and there.not big displays of course but some of the houses here in the area have them on like their windows or their front porches.i noticed 4 houses last night while i was driving to my parents' house, that had a few lights still up.in my own apartment complex ,i noticed last night, that three apartments nearby had their baclony christmas lights lighted..i suppose that will come to an end sometime within a few days though./even though it looked kind of nice,it also seemed a tiny bit odd,but againi enjoyed the seeing them as i was driving by.a kind of warm feeling/.i probably miss christmas so much afterward like this causeat this time i don't have any real close friends to hang with.i suggest that you not try to rid yourself of the feeling of missing christmas..how i deeal with it is this..i decided to not let it end.there are several thrift stores and dollar stores in my area and i decided to purchase ,once a week, something inexpensive..trivial..but something my parents would like nonetheless, even if it's just a bar of scented soap or candles and wrap it and prsent it to them when i visit..i visit them two or three times a week as they live close by..and buying them thrift store or dollar store items is inexpensive enough i can afford it two or three times weekly.i plan to NOT let christmas end..at least not for myself!!

i meant to add to my above post, that if you don't live close enough to your parents that you can visit them, you can always mail them a couple inexpensive items form the thrift shop or dollar store ona weekly basis/. or if that gets too troublesome,do the dollar stores online and order them a couple inexpensive things on a weekly basis. that way christmas doesn't fully end and shopping for them online can be almost like christmas shopping if done in the manner i suggest. alittle bit of christmas and inexpensive at that..as far as i know, dollar stores like dollar general and any of the chains have online stores.and i'm sure many thrift shops too
