Dear Mel,
I need a new wardrobe.
My mom is a shopaholic, but I hate going to the mall. I get tired of trying on clothes after about 20 minutes. How can I learn to be a better shopper? Like I said, I really, really, really need some new outfits to wear!

Dear Out of Style,
It's funny, because I used to feel the same way about shopping. Dressing rooms bored me. The brightly colored dresses and shimmery scarves made me want to barf. The annoying saleswomen infuriated me to no ends.
And my mom loves shopping, too. Her closet is seriously bigger than my room. I always find myself waking up on a Saturday morning to the sound of my mom's voice: "Want to go to the mall today?"
The old me would complain and look for excuses not to go. The new me jumps out of bed and says, "Yes! I really need some new Uggs!"
How did I change my ways, you ask? It's simple. I started watching shows like Gossip Girl and Sex and the City. Blair Waldorf's splendor and Carrie Bradshaw's Manolo Blahnik shoes made me go ga-ga for fashion. Those shows inspired me to put more effort into what I wear. (I don't dress nice every day, of course. I still love sporting a comfy sweatshirt and jeans.)
So here's my advice for you: Get inspired. Read a few fashion blogs, or peruse the Saks Fifth Avenue website. Good luck!
-Mel
