Dear Mel,
I'm in a lot of AP classes this year. It's weird, because last year, I was in all regular classes. So now I feel insecure and less smart than everyone else in my classes. It's annoying- I feel like they all think I'm dumb. What can I do to change their minds?

Dear Wannabe Smart Kid,
The first thing that came to mind while reading your question was this: Smart kids drink coffee. You should carry around a thermos full of "coffee". Of course, it would really be filled with Diet Coke, but when other kids see you sipping hot "coffee" from your thermos, they will immediately think of you as more mature/intellectual. Good idea, right?
Another thing you can do to boost your smartness is actually study. Get better grades than everyone else. Be the overachiever in a sea of smarties.
Wearing glasses might help, too. Nothing says brainiac like a nice pair of specs!
Participate a lot in class.
Start reading the dictionary before bed. A good vocabulary always scores a few points with the honor roll kids.
Carry around big books, like Pride and Prejudice.
Give it a few weeks, and before you know, these kids will be asking you for help on their A.P. U.S. DBQ's.
