Dear Mel,
I'm not in high school, I am in middle school.. but here is my question: My friends all like to watch scary movies, but I hate them. They give me nightmares. But I suck it up anyways and watch, because I don't want my friends to make fun of me. How can I stop being such a baby about these movies?

Dear Too Scared,
There was a time when I, too, freaked out while watching scary movies like Saw and Halloween. But I grew out of it around the 5th grade. Here's what you should do:
-Don't take everything that happens in the movie so seriously.
-Remind yourself that most of the time, the movies are fictional and the directors are extremely deranged.
-Laugh. When you see that bloody head up on the TV screen, think of how funny it would look if the blood was hot pink. Or imagine all of the characters in their underwear.
Or, alternate route: Convince your friends that scary movies are SO last year- This year it's all about romantic comedies!
Just an idea.
-Mel

Some friends you have, Too Scared. I abhor horror movies, and my friends don't care at all. We simply don't go to the theaters on Saw opening nights. If they judge you based on your dislike of horror films (of all things - I mean, really), I suggest finding new friends.
