IMD Guest House Meets Critical Need of Patients, Caregivers

Every now and then I learn about a service for caregivers that knocks my socks off. When I do, it brings me great joy to tell my readers about it so they can access such valuable help.

The latest service to catch my attention is the IMD Guest House. The what, you say? I’m not surprised – the IMD Guest House is a little known secret within the Illinois Medical District (IMD), a geographic area in the city of Chicago that encompasses hospitals such as Rush University Medical Center, University of Illinois Medical Center, and the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center, among others.

The IMD Guest House was created to provide affordable accommodations for patients, their caregivers, and family members while receiving treatment in the Illinois Medical District.

It’s not surprising that this is a critical need – the top-notch hospitals in this region attract patients from all over the country, some of whom require lengthy treatment. Health care costs are difficult enough to cover; finding an affordable place to stay in the city is downright formidable for some of these families.

At the IMD Guest House, rates are determined on a sliding scale and no one is ever turned away for an inability to pay. Yes, you read that correctly.

Each guest room sleeps up to four individuals and includes a kitchenette along with handicapped-accessible bathrooms, cable television and wireless Internet access. The building has 24-hour security, an onsite ATM machine, a common laundry facility, and linen/towel service for those staying more than 6 nights.

Located on the campus of the University of Illinois at Chicago, guests have easy access to the Student Center, public transportation and several hospitals. Recent renovations to the building included additional rooms to serve more families and a new community room.

But most importantly, patients and caregivers who stay at the IMD Guest House are provided peace of mind, knowing that they can concentrate on the medical treatment at hand instead of having to worry about how to afford to come to Chicago for perhaps lifesaving treatment.

If you are a caregiver needing to travel to the Illinois Medical District for your loved one’s medical treatment, I strongly encourage you check out the IMD Guest House. For more information, check out the official website.

Many thanks to the IMD Guest House for providing such an important, compassionate service to patients and caregivers!
