Guerilla Smiles: The Food Art of Nick Jirasek

by Jeriah Hildwine I first heard about Studio 1020 back in February 2010, when I read Jason Foumberg’s review of Doug Fogelson’s “Salt Room” in New City. Not long thereafter I got an invitation to attend an exhibition of collaborative work by Tony Fitzpatrick, Matthew Hoffman, Meghan Lorenz, KS Rives, and “12 others.” Unfortunately I... Read more »

Chicago Gallery Snack Report (3/18/11 - 3/26/11)

So we spent the night talking to Nick about the food, to Tony about his upcoming play (Station Lost, at the Steppenwolf this summer), and talked curatorial theory with some employees of a certain Chicago contemporary art museum. Chicago Gallery Snack Report: Friday, January 21, 2011

The galvanized bucket o' beer sat in the gallery's small kitchen. We arrived midway through the reception, the place was packed, but there was still a healthy supply of Miller High Life, as well as some cans of La Croix mineral water or something. Around closing time some guys came in with a case of Ice House and added it to the tub. I had one or two High Lifes and one of the Ice Houses the gentlemen brought by, and then it was off to bed. This was the last opening at Swimming Pool's current space. Look for one upcoming exhibition in a West Loop space, currently Liz Nielsen's studio, before she and Carolina Wheat pull up stakes for New York. Best of luck, ladies!
