The Morning After: Art Chicago and Gallery Opening Night

All told, it was an epic weekend, full of art, snacks, and good times.
by Stephanie Burke and Jeriah Hildwine You wake up, bleary-eyed, not sure where, or even who, you are.  “Why am I sticky?” you ask yourself.  “Did I see a man with an axe, chopping up puppies?”  Congratulations.  You survived Art Chicago. Check out the slideshow for images from Artropolis (Art Chicago/NEXT), some Black Pass events,... Read more »

Chicago Gallery Snack Report: March 3rd through March 13th

Co-Prosperity Sphere featured bottles of Miller High Life, and curators Linda Dorman and Tom Torluemke brought an assortment of pies, cakes, and brownies. Stephanie thought the cake was too sweet; she should have known better: you don't expect subtlety from something that bright pink! I found the apple pie more to my taste. After enjoying our beers and desserts, we ended up buying a small Billy Pozzo sculpture, which looks like the top half of a submerged zombie's head, who now lives in a bowl in our living room. Thanks guys!

Chicago Gallery Snack Report: Friday, January 21, 2011

The galvanized bucket o' beer sat in the gallery's small kitchen. We arrived midway through the reception, the place was packed, but there was still a healthy supply of Miller High Life, as well as some cans of La Croix mineral water or something. Around closing time some guys came in with a case of Ice House and added it to the tub. I had one or two High Lifes and one of the Ice Houses the gentlemen brought by, and then it was off to bed. This was the last opening at Swimming Pool's current space. Look for one upcoming exhibition in a West Loop space, currently Liz Nielsen's studio, before she and Carolina Wheat pull up stakes for New York. Best of luck, ladies!
by Jeriah Hildwine and Stephanie Burke At left: Jeriah Hildwine, your faithful snack reporter (“Dude, where’s your kilt?”). Center, the amazing chef Nick Jirasek of Guerilla Smiles. Right, artist and curator Tony Fitzpatrick, our gracious host. January may sound a bit early to be handing out Snacks of the Year awards, but this past Friday... Read more »
