Chicago Gallery Snack Report: Friday, April 30

Due to recent travels, the snack report is running a few weeks behind.  Friday, April 30th was the public opening of Artropolis, and Steph and I were performing in Tara Strickstein's Pataphor at the NEXT Art Fair.  After an exhilarating but exhausting day of performing, we were still able to live up to the task of getting out to the galleries and seeing some art!

For some reason, the big gallery opening night was on Saturday this year, which was actually a good thing because two of our friends had openings on Fridays, meaning they didn't have to compete with the scores of openings in River North and the West Loop on Saturday.  These were Jessica Labatte's show Lazy Shadows at Golden, and a group show at Ugly Stepsister including a photograph by Megan Baker.

My memory of that weekend is a bit fuzzy, but if I remember right, Golden was still serving Grolsch, and Ugly Stepsister had a keg but it had run dry by the time we arrived, so we had wine instead.  And then got caught in a sudden thunderstorm.

Check out the slideshow for images of Jessica and Megan's work, and a sneak peek at the free lunches you can score if you've got a press pass and are quick on your feet:  they go fast!
