So, as my inaugural post at Editor-in-Chief of Art Talk Chicago, you will be getting a piece of my world. Now, this may bear an explanation of a congealing of events recently: going to see "The Road" (book was better, I must tip my hat to Oprah for exposing her unknowing book club to this glorious bit of the apocalypse by Cormac McCarthy) and 2012 (AWESOME eye candy, but that's about it), writing a (possibly) soon to be published off topic piece for Bad at Sports about starting a fire in survival situations (my husband Jeriah and I are both avid survivalists), looking at Pieter Bruegel the Elder's "Triumph of Death" for a piece I'm working on, and the icing on the cake, listening to our dearly departed Bill Hicks. Thus, I give you: the Apocalypse in Art, a very brief (and very incomplete) survey!

Nice article and images! I'd like to add the book called "Signs of the Apocalypse/Rapture" from Front Forty Press (www.front40press.com) to your list. They (we) had a feature exhibition at the Hyde Park Art Center this past summer with about 1/3rd of the artists from the book (but with an alternative selection of pieces). There is an awful lot of this kind of thing around now but i'm still enjoying the intensity of this sort of thing over many of the usual pop culture references to be found in the arts.
Survivalists unite! Have you read "Deep Survival" from Lawrence Gonzales? It's a fast and good read.
