Beta Launch of the Art Map and Calendar Tool

We launched an online application for finding Chicago art galleries and exhibits. Although it's a beta version, it already includes over 300 venues on a Google Map, and lists 150 events on the calendar.

Go to Map (warning, you are leaving ChicagoNow.com)

It's a Friday, you want to go gallery hopping, hit some openings at some alternative and

commercial spaces. In the past, that goal entailed a lot of research and ultimately you have to call a buddy in-the-know to really find out what's going on. NO MORE!

Both the map and calendar allow for the following views, filters and sorting functions:

alphabetical
geographical
by neighborhood
by opening reception date
by specialty (like photography or installations)
by artists' name
by venue type (commercial galleries, alternative spaces or institutions)

We've already got an healthy list of enhancements for a v.2, and would love feedback. About 75% of all data has been entered, and this comes with the usual disclaimer that you should always double check before going anywhere.

You are welcome to use our data IF you're willing to link to us. If you do, let us know, and we will tell you about the dummy data you need to pull out. Leaving in our bad data is a great way for us to nail you for listing the "Three Bunnies" alternative space that doesn't exist, or the gallery on the elusive Byzantine Street. You get the idea, you can have it if you're cool about it, and we'll make you look like an dopes if you're not.

The map and calendar can be accessed above through the Map and Calendar tab.
