How To Gallery Hop Tonight

BrianaSchweizer.jpg

In the art gallery scene, sometimes it's pretty quiet, and sometime there are big nights. Tonight is a big night.

We cribbed and enhanced Stephanie Burke's Gallery Crawl ,

which lists around 40 gallery openings tonight. And using our handy dandy 2-minutes-to-load Art Map and you will find everything with ease.

Martin Jon nailed the Chicago Cultural Center, which is on my personal list for the night.

Steve Kush Ruiz put his picks, and practically his schedule on Chicago Art Review. Every week, I beg him to blog for our site. Maybe this week we'll get lucky.

Ginny Berg's Twitter feeds from Chicago Gallery News will steer you right. (chigallerynews)

Last, Paul Klein's Artletter was so magnificent, I wanted call and ask if I could cut and paste the entire thing into this blog. But I'm hitting the streets  and need to run. As a rule, Paul's efforts, across the board, kick ass. And he helps this little blog out of the kindness of his heart. He's posted a zillion pictures and done some great "picks", and taken great "pics".

One final note, the photo on the top of the entry got left out of the mix last week and I think it's a great project on many levels.

"Artist Briana Schweizer captures a moment with the Spearman and Bowman monuments arming them with chalk. Passersby of the site of the Spearman and Bowman monuments at Michigan Avenue and Congress Parkway often wonder what happened to their apparently missing weapons. The assumption is that the spear and bow were damaged at some point, or have been temporarily removed for cleaning or repair. In fact, the two Native American men on horseback have always been unarmed. With this project, It's About Time, the artist wishes to empower ephemerally the monuments by drawing their shadows with weapons in hand. During most of the day the work appears as a double shadow with the shadow cast by the sun. Once a day, the two shadows align giving the Spearman his spear and the Bowman his bow."
