As the annual Baseball Winter Meetings wrapped up today it was clear what the White Sox had in mind during their stay in Opryland--acquiring infielders.
Yesterday, they seemed to fill their third base need with the signing of veteran infielder Jeff Keppinger. And, today, in the major league phase of the Rule 5 Draft they selected infielder Angel Sanchez, who has played in the majors briefly with the Royals, Red Sox and, most recently in 2011, the Astros. A natural shortstop, Sanchez can also play second and third and will compete for backup role. For the record, he can be returned to his latest team, the Angels, for half of the $50,000 it cost to acquire him.
