News Item No. 1: Jordan Danks optioned to Charlotte on Sunday.
News Item No. 2: Lefty reliever Donnie Veal recalled from Charlotte on Monday.
I haven't consulted the Elias Sports Bureau so I'm not 100 percent sure it's unprecedented, but at the very least I'm confident that there haven't been many players sent down to the minor leagues after smashing a dramatic walk-off homer 48 hours earlier.
That, of course, is the case of Jordan Danks, who got caught up in a numbers game. With Dewayne Wise recalled to replace Paul Konerko and the Sox bullpen taxed, the brass felt it was more important to have extra help in the pen than carrying both Wise and Danks. And Wise, unlike Danks, is out of options.
Things certainly changed in a hurry. Danks had hardly wiped away the shaving cream pie off his face for hitting his first major league homer on Friday night, a game-winner, and now he's back in the minors. With Konerko sidelined I, for one, predicted that Danks would get more playing time. I was right--but the playing time will be at Charlotte instead of Chicago.
