525,600 minutes of health and happiness

525,600 minutes of health and happiness
It was one year ago today that I vowed to start living a better life. I made a personal vow to be happier, healthier, and to start living in the moment. Though I was determined, I was still about 50% afraid that I would completely fail. It is so easy to fall back into bad... Read more »

Inspiration Monday: Going meatless and dropping 70 pounds after pregnancy
I’m starting a new thread here at ArkieLad called Inspiration Monday. Every week, I will focus on one person who met their weight loss goal, or is at least close to it. For our first edition, I want to introduce everyone to my buddy Caryn. She is from Austin, Texas, and is the proud mother... Read more »

Fat to Fit: Kicking the Diet Coke habit

Fat to Fit: Kicking the Diet Coke habit
Even though I am the thinnest, and healthiest, I have been since high school, there are still a few bad habits that are in my life. Fortunately, most of them are completely under my control. For instance, as much as I love Oreos, I limit myself to only a few a month. Those few satisfy... Read more »

Meal Replacement Shakes: A load of crap or loads of help?

Meal Replacement Shakes: A load of crap or loads of help?
I am using this post to admit that I do not understand why people consume weight loss shakes when trying to lose weight! Whether one relies on Shakeology or another type of weight-loss shake, they are consuming upwards of 250 calories in a drink in one setting. I say upwards of 250 calories because while a... Cheat Days: Why I hate them, and you should too
So many times when people try to live a healthier lifestyle, they implement days they call “Cheat Day”. I am sure everybody has heard of them, but, to be honest, they drive me insane. Basically, a Cheat Day is for people that are trying to live a healthy life, yet they tell themselves that one... Read more »

Did you know that insects and their larvae are acceptable in your food. Peanut Butter and Chocolate can contain 30 or more insect fragments per 100 grams of product. Wheat flour - 150 or more insect fragments per 100 grams. Shredded carrots can contain 800 or more per 10 grams.

Additionally, insects abdomens are what makes natural red #4 on ingredient lists.
Earlier this week I posted a gallery of the 8 Gross Things You Are Probably Eating. I like to think that the post opened up a few eyes as to what is really contained in the food that we eat. As someone on a mission to live healthier, I know that I have been surprised as... Read more »

Fat to Fit: Gross things you are probably eating

You may have heard of Silicon Dioxide, but did you know it is actually sand. It can be found in Wendy's chili, a variety of coffee creamers, and several varieties of canned soups.
We are all well aware that there are many things on our grocery store shelves that are not really meant for human consumption; however, do we know what those things really are? Today, I’m devoting my blog to things you are eating that you are probably unaware of. Once you go through the gallery, be... Read more »

Fat to Fit: Tried and approved vegetarian recipes

The first recipe up is Black Bean Salad with Corn, Red Peppers, Avocado, and Lime-Cilantro Vinaigrette. This is a great summer treat. If you are picky like me, and I know very few are on this topic, you can leave out the avocados.
One of the perks about being in a community like ChicagoNow is the amount of resources we have at our disposal thanks to the hard work and dedication of others. For example, when one of the members of Quinntessential Health suggested we start having a vegetarian day as a theme day, I turned to Ups... Read more »
