I have always said that people should live their life feeling and being fabulous. Regardless of what it takes, one should always feel completely awesome about who they are and where they are in their life.
My dear friend Jetta Bates Vasilatos of Jettasetting encourages people to do the same thing. She advocates for people to have fun no matter what. Whether it's going to work or traveling the globe, she believes one should take the time to choose happy.
One way she is helping people do that is by offering everyone a chance to feel like a million bucks this coming Saturday (August 16, 2014) at her second $25.00 Head Shot & Day Party.
From 8:30 am to 4:00 pm, you are invited to come to 1906 S. Halsted in Chicago to get your professional headshot from famed photographer Ven Sherrod. After getting your professional quality headshot, stick around to socialize, sip on cocktails, nibble on some snacks, and dance the day away to the spinning beats.
I loved the idea the moment , and I am looking forward to getting my headshot done this Saturday. Of course, not everybody thinks about getting their headshot professionally done, so I asked Jetta where she got the idea.
"As a consumer engagement and communications strategist for global organizations; I am very aware of the power of branding and strategic marketplace positioning. Experience has taught me that being smart about how the public experiences you is not just for big companies or high powered executives; anyone who is trying to achieve something better in their life should care about their personal brand. Having a great head shot, making that first wonderful impression, can help open a lot of doors. My blog, jettasetting.com, is all about encouraging people to have fun and live life well; and as part of that mission, I wanted to create a way for people to feel empowered to put their best foot forward. One of my favorite photography studios that I used for my corporate and event work, Ven Sherrod Photography, was willing to help make this event a reality and provide a day of access to great photos for all (as head shots from his, and other professional studios, costs $300 and up)."
Seeing her passion for helping others succeed, I went on to ask her what she thinks is so important about a good headshot.
"Having a quality headshot is critical, especially for those of us on social media. As we know, first impressions are formulated in seconds - so why not put your best face forward? Great photos often inspire the right kind of curiosity that may encourage someone of benefit to you to find out more about your backgound...but a bad photo can do just the opposite. Unfortunately some amazing people lose that next job, contract, or perhaps a new love, because they did not accurately represent themselves online."
Knowing Jetta is a world traveler who is always meeting new people, I knew she had seen some pretty bad headshots over the years. I had to ask her if there was a bad headshot that stood out as the worst.
"I've seen it all; fuzzy, grainy, beer hats, uber boobage...and of course the 15 year old head shot where the person is TOTALLY unrecognizable (is that your yearbook photo?). There was a women who had a Facebook profile pic featuring her tied up like a Thanksgiving turkey with an apple in her mouth. She worked in education."
When all is said and done, I asked her what she wants people to take away from this experience.
"I want them to feel important, attractive, proud and confident. Hopefully this can be a fun nudge toward the next great opportunity."
There you have it. Don't be that person with a bad headshot that gets passed over because you do not put your best foot forward. Join Jetta and friends this Saturday for the $25 Head Shot & Day Party. Tickets are available by clicking here.
