I have lost over 100 pounds...or have I?

I have lost over 100 pounds...or have I?

Since starting to eat healthier and becoming more active, I have had the same conversations over and over with people regarding my weight loss. Unfortunately, I have still not been able to figure out which way to answer the question "how much have you lost".

It either goes one of two ways.

Option #1:

Other Person: How much have you lost?

Me: As of today, 63.8 pounds (or whatever it is for that week).

Other Person: WOW! Congrats. What was your heaviest?

Me: 316 pounds.

Other Person: What do you weigh now?

Me: 212 pounds.

Other Person: Ummmm, your math is wrong.

Me: Well, actually I didn't start tracking weight loss until January 26th. Since January 26th, I am down 63.8 pounds. From my heaviest, I am down 104.

Other Person: So you are really down 104 pounds.

Option 2:

Other Person: How much have you lost?

Me: I'm down 104 from my heaviest.

Other Person: WOW! Congrats. When did you start your journey?

Me: I really became focused on January 26th of this year.

Other Person: You weighed over 300 pounds at the beginning of this year?

Me: Well, actually I didn't start tracking weight loss until January 26th. Since January 26th, I am down 63.8 pounds. From my heaviest, I am down 104.

Other Person: Ummm, so you are really ONLY down 63.8 pounds.

No matter which way I answer the question, the conversation goes in a way to make it either look like I'm either exaggerating or that I am discounting how much I've really lost.

Regardless, just remember that we can't measure our health by pounds lost, we just use that loss as a way to measure whether we are on the right track or not.

Which way do you measure your weight loss? Do you  measure from the start of your journey, or from your highest weight ever?
