Free and Frugal things to do in Chicago

After watching Cirque Shanghai: Dragon's Thunder on Wednesday, my partner and I stuck around Navy Pier for the fireworks show. Believe it or not, we had yet to catch the fireworks at the Pier.

Let me tell that I am now ashamed it took so long. The fireworks are awesome. Watching them while the beautiful Skyline of Chicago is in the background is absolutely lovely. The fireworks are synchronized to music that is blaring around the Pier, and the combination of music and sparks makes for a perfect night out with friends, or, more importantly, a date.

The free show happens every Wednesday at 9:30 pm and Saturday at 10:15 pm from now through August 31st. Be sure to make your way out to Navy Pier and watch this wonderful event presented just for our enjoyment.

Starting next Thursday, another great freebie will be Rockin' in The Park, a summer concert series. The concerts will be held at the MB Financial Park in Rosement from June 6th through August 15th. Not only is the event free to the public, parking will also be free with validation.

Rockin' in the Park will feature 7th Heaven, Hi Infidenlity, Kashmire, Funk Circus, 16 Candles, Breakfast Club, and so many more bands and groups. For the complete schedule, click here.

Of course, before the Rockin' in the Park series kicks off, and even before the next Fireworks show at Navy Pier happens, you have a great shopping event in my community to attend.

The 2nd Annual North Center Neighborhood Association's Yard Sale is happening tomorrow, June 1st, from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm. Over 60 families are scheduled to participate, and everything from baby items to sporting equipment will be for sale. Be sure to bring lots of cash and a way to carry home your new finds because though the event is free, the merchandise is not.

In case you do not know, North Center runs approximately Western to Ravenswood and Addison to Montrose. Look for signs and groups of people.
