When I heard that the Chicago bikes for Divvy was going to be shown during the Bike the Drive event today in Butler Park, I had to go check it out. Divvy is one program that I am really excited about, and I wanted to see the new bikes up close.
For those unfamiliar with Divvy, it is a bike sharing program that will have hubs setup throughout the City. You can either get a 24-hour pass for $7.00 or pay $75.00 for a year of rides. The passes allow you go to any hub, get a bike, and keep it for up to 30 minutes before returning it to another hub. You can do this an unlimited amount of times for the duration of your pass.
The program is designed for short trips around the City, hence the 30-minute time limit. The hubs are to be distributed around major areas such as transportation centers, shopping areas, tourist attracts, etc. These are all places that you should be able to easily get from one to another within 30 minutes or less.
I think the program will be perfect for nice days when I opt to take a bike instead of ride the bus. Also, the program will be a great way to avoid congestion on the roads and CTA during major events. I know that living around Wrigleyville, Divvy will be perfect for game days.
As excited as I already was, I am even more excited now that I see the bikes. I am ready for this program to launch so I can get to rolling. The program is scheduled to launch this Summer.
