Defense of Marriage Act Unconstitutional, says First Circuit Court of Appeals

Defense of Marriage Act Unconstitutional, says First Circuit Court of Appeals
In a 33-page Opinion handed down by the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, the Defense of Marriage Act, DOMA, was declared unconstitutional. I like that the opinion written by Judge Boudin states that: “DOMA does not formally invalidate same-sex marriages in states that permit them, but its adverse consequences for such a choice are considerable.... Illinois' Marriage Equality Battle heads to the courts!
Lambda Legal and the ACLU of Illinois announced today that they will be filing lawsuits in the state of Illinois to seek marriage equality for same-sex couples. Though they are taking the battle to the courts, in a mass e-mail sent out from Equality Illinois, the battle will also still continue in Springfield. “Under this... Read more »

Using the N-word at Taco Bell: A whole level above ignorance.

I know that racism is still alive and well today in America. Of course I try to imagine a world where it does not exist, but I know the truth. Prior to moving to a Yankee state, I had just assumed racism was rampant mostly in the south. Now though, I know that regardless of... Read more »

Living without cable television: Not as hard as I thought!

Living without cable television: Not as hard as I thought!
The hubby and I are trying something out for a while to see if we like it. It all started because we got tired of paying Comcast over $100.00 a month for background noise. Rarely did we use Comcast for anything other than noise, and when we did want to watch television, we normally watched... Read more »

Getting back to my roots of random ramblings.

In two months my blog will be a year old. That is not a long time to have a blog, but it seems like forever to me. Of course, sometimes it feels like I have lived up here forever, when in reality I have just barely lived here 15 months. When I started my blog,... Read more »

North Carolina continues history of hatred...

FACT FOR THE DAY: The last time North Carolina amended their state Constitution was so that they could ban interracial marriage. So if you are surprised they banned gay marriage, I feel sorry for you. North Carolina is just continuing their tradition of hatred. Borrowed from ThinkProgress.
