Some people wonder why record labels have a bad name! Well, this is why.
Less than an hour after the death of Whitney Houston on Saturday, Sony raised the price of Whitney's Ultimate Collection CD on iTunes by 60%.
Now I know that when an artist dies their sales normally go up. Michael Jackson's sales were huge after his death. However, is that the time to jack up the prices? Is it not time to allow the industry to grieve?
Though it is worth noting that much of hoopla being made comes from the United Kingdom; however, this is still pretty sorry of Sony. I really think that Sony sets the price of the music, so I see no reason to blame iTunes.
Anyway, I expect that the charts in both the U.S. and the U.K. will be loaded with Whitney albums and songs this week.
Regardless though, shame on Sony. What a slimy thing to do.
