Chamber of Commerce: A resource you should never overlook.

I am continuously shocked at how many people are not acquainted with their local Chamber of Commerce. For those of you who do not use your local Chamber, you are missing a great networking opportunity. The Chamber brings local businesses together to help promote and grow your community.

One of the first places I visited when I moved to the area was the Chamber of Commerce in Mount Prospect. The staff there was wonderful. They educated me on local resources available in the area by directing me to the right places to look for jobs, apartments, and even social events.

Some Chambers even know of local job openings in the communities that are not accessible any other way. A few Chambers will have job postings on their websites; however, most will have tons of resources to at least point you in the right direction of your job search.

Once you have a job, you and/or your business should become involved in the Chamber. It is a great way to network and get to know local businesses. If you are trying to promote your own business, most Chambers will not only point you in the right direction, but many will even given you pointers that you may have never thought of.

Then, once you are in the know with businesses, use your Chamber to find fun. Some Chambers throw their own social events, some sponsor them, but most all of them have entertainment listings available. If you ever find yourself looking for something to do, your Chamber can probably point you in the right direction.

So, if you are trying to find out about an area and its' people, be sure to check out your local Chamber of Commerce. They may even have event you can attend to get you acquainted with their offerings.
