"Do you like it up here?" my boyfriend asked as he continued to sip hot chocolate from his paper cup. We were sitting inside a Dunkin' Donuts on Kirchoff Road in Rolling Meadows. The rain made for a perfect night to make life changing decisions. Rain always seems to make things new and fresh. After the year we had, we needed a new and fresh start, so I answered "I love it."
It was my first trip to Illinois, and I had fallen in love. There was so much to do, so much to see, and I wanted to do and see it all. We headed back to our home in Little Rock, Arkansas, and continued life as normal for a few days. Then, we made the decision to pack our bags, and move up here.
What was I leaving behind? Not a lot. In the past year, I had ended a 12 year relationship. Well I didn't actually end it. My boyfriend kind of ended it. Well, he wasn't my boyfriend, he was my partner's boyfriend. He was suppose to be my replacement. However, that's a story for another day though.
Anyway, over the course of 2010, I had grown up so much. I was a 31 year old man discovering myself. On that path of discovery, I knew I wanted something bigger, something better, and I needed to get out of Arkansas. So, on New Year's Eve of 2010, everything we owned, that didn't fit in a hatchback, went into a POD. On January 1, 2011, we loaded up into my Chevy Aveo, and drove from Little Rock, Arkansas to Chicagoland to start a new. A new year, a new me, a new life.
I look forward to sharing stories of my past, stories of my future, and also my experience in bringing southern hospitality to the mid-west.
