Today in Uptown the annual New Year Parade kicked off a little after 1:00 p.m on Argyle street. It started at Broadway and Argyle proceeded to Sheridan, Sheridan to Lawrence to Broadway and back to Argyle. As the parade started firecrackers exploded to ring in the new year!
Uptown's West Argyle Street Historic District is also known as New Chinatown, Little Saigon, or Little Vietnam. Today's celebration and parade had a good turnout. It was reported nearly 1,500 people came out in the snowy weather too enjoy the floats, marchers along with lion and dragon dancers.
Tomorrow from 1-3 a much larger parade and celebration will be held in Chicago's Chinatown.
Here are photos from today's celebration.
