No longer will you need to wash newsprint from your fingers.
Never have to walk into the neighbors yard because the paperboy or girls throwing arm was weak that day.
Picking up the morning coffee while glancing over the latest edition, as you wipe the sleep from your eyes... over, no-more.
Trees will grow taller, the world will be brighter, people will be happier... bullshit
What will happen and what has already happened is the fact that people stopped buying newspapers and magazines, bottom line, period.
Will this trend change.... NO!
The big newspaper show of yesterday is long gone, well before today all of the facts have pointed to print media standing on it's final stage. It is inevitable and just a matter of time for the curtain to close.
No one really knows could be 5 years could be 10, but it will happen. Newspapers and magazines are currently in a fight for their very existence. Look at the recent Chicago Sun Times actions of firing the entire Photography Staff, a total of 28 of the most talented in the industry.
The entire world seemed dumbfounded by this move to improve their bottom line at any cost, or was it just a survival move explained by the following statement.
"The Sun-Times business is changing rapidly and our audiences are consistently seeking more video content with their news. We have made great progress in meeting this demand and are focused on bolstering our reporting capabilities with video and other multimedia elements. The Chicago Sun-Times continues to evolve with our digitally savvy customers, and as a result, we have had to restructure the way we manage multimedia, including photography, across the network."
That statement was filled with Bullshit! The Sun Times along with many other media companies are moving toward Paid Content.
The Chicago Sun Times still has photos in its paper and online version, not as good with local coverage as they did with a full professional photography staff. Pages are filled with AP or Getty Images, they are still paying for photos, just not as much.
I contend it is not the Journalist or Photojournalist that is in danger of extinction.
It will be the print media and the way information is disseminated.
Newspapers and Magazines will disappear as we know them today! Print Media = The Dodo (Raphus cucullatus) an extinct flightless bird.
Moving forward, Journalist or Photojournalist must have an exceptionally strong talent for marketing, the ability to drive traffic, build content, edit and create. All of these things are no longer the jobs of others. We are living in the Super Information Age, which demands super talented individuals.
Content can be called King but Talent survives. Long live the talent!
