Cinco de Mayo Parade Photos
May 5, 2013, Chicago's Cinco de Mayo Parade kicked off at noon from Cermak and Wood and went all the way to Kedzie. The Cinco De Mayo Parade is held to remember the victory the Mexican forces had over the invading French army in the Battle of Puebla on 5 May, 1862.
I found it to be a big city parade with a friendly small town atmosphere. Unlike many of the other parades in Chicago like the Thanksgiving Day Parade or Saint Patricks Day Parade or some of the other large Chicago parades, it did not seem to get as much media attention. I arrived a few hours before the parade started and I walked most of the parade route. I did not see as much television or newspaper coverage that I thought such a large parade would attract.
Here are my many photos from todays parade:
For many attending the parade today, it began with a Sunday morning mass like this one at St. Jude on Ashland ave.
