Days of Rain: Chicago Flooding & Road Closures - Photos
It has been raining for days in the Chicago area and this morning it created major delays and road closures. Chicago area was hit with more than 6 inches of rain this morning. Widespread road closures throughout the entire Chicago area. Some Schools closed as well as O'Hare Airport was forced to cancel over 300 flights. In addition to all of the rain, a sinkhole that swallowed three cars on 96th and Houston is being reported.
My trip this morning turned into a road trip from hell, it seemed every road I turned on was filled with rainwater or closed to traffic unless you were traveling in a boat.
Many Chicago area roads have high standing water and were impassable. More thunderstorms are expected to move through the areas moves through the Chicago area.
News sources have reported that flooding has closed the Edens, Eisenhower and Kennedy expressways Thursday morning in the Chicago area.
The Edens Expressway is closed between Foster and Touhy avenues and between Winnetka and Willow roads, and the Eisenhower Expressway in both directions between North Ave. and York Road and westbound at Mannheim Road, according to the newspaper. The southbound Kennedy Expressway is closed at Addison St.
More than five inches of rain has fallen in the Chicago region since Wednesday.
Governor Pat Quinn has activated the State Incident Response Center in Springfield to assess flooding and severe weather in several areas of the state and expedite assistance.
Today's weather is continued rain, warm and muggy. The warm part will come later with a forecast high in the low 70s
