2013 Chicago Auto Show Media Circus
McCormick Place is hosting the 105th Chicago Auto Show which is open to the public February 9th through the 18th. I attended the Media Preview a two day event held February 7th and 8th. I was really excited about this event, a friend mentioned that I would be able to enjoy two of my passions, cars and photography, simultaneously. I thought taking photos of a bunch of new cars would be very sweet - until I arrived. Surprisingly, I did not find taking pictures of new cars interesting at all, although I did like a few of the old cars on display. I would rather have spent the day roaming around Chicago taking photos of city scenery that I find much more interesting
What I did find interesting was the media circus. The show was not open to the public but filled with crowds of media from all over the world. Just about everyone had a camera of some sort or film equipment. It seemed like every media outlet under the sun was in attendance, cable, television, radio, website, magazine and newspaper. It seemed to be all about the unveiling the hype, and the big announcements. I was not impressed. The KIA presentation was not bad, they served Bloody Marys afterwards and two of those made the morning a little more interesting.
So I am not going to be posting a ton of pictures of new cars, which seems like the right thing to do if you are covering the Chicago Auto Show. Instead I have opted to post some of the photos I took of the hoards of media taking photos of the autos or creating the story.
