For those who have never lived in south Louisiana, you may not be familiar with the term lagniappe.
Lagniappe (pronounced: lan-yap) means “a little something extra” in Cajun country.
Each week, I try to post a “Lagniappe Blog” that is just me scattershooting about whatever pops in the old skull.
So here we go….
The Golden Hawg
Each week, Gregg will be announcing the winner of the coveted Golden Hawg Medallion. This week the award goes to Charlie Schmitt of Mount Prospect. The son of Todd and Margie Schmitt, Charlie had his first taste of BACON this week and according to his father “loved it.” Way to go Charlie…it’s never too early to start with the pig.
I really miss Randy and Evi Quaid now that they are settled into their lives as international fugitives in Vancouver.
Their stories and antics over the last three years are legendary. The rumor on the street is that Dwayne “Dog” Chapman of “Dog The Bounty Hunter” fame has contemplated a run into Canada to bring the Quaids back to justice in Santa Barbara County (Calif.).
Dog has Randy and Evi listed on “Dog’s Most Wanted” list. If you have any information that would help Dog in this international manhunt, please click here. Good luck compadre.
Now there is a reality show episode made in nut ball heaven.
NBC5 Dance Friday
And for all those poor sheltered souls that wonder what happens at NBC5 in Chicago since they dropped Dance Friday, here you go.
If you are one of those people who miss this crap, you can join the 13 other folks in Chicago that miss it on the “Bring BACK Dance Friday” Facebook page.
Virgil Cain Update
Most of you who read this blog know about NASCAR Chef, Motivational Speaker and Life Coach Virgil Cain. The second part of my interview with Virgil will be coming up in a couple of weeks and it looks like Virgil will be once again make himself available at Texas Motor Speedway in April for the Samsung Mobile 500.
Talking with Virgil last week, he said he is endorsing a new product, “Fat Boy Ice Cream” and he asked if I could mention them in the blog. When I tried to dive a little deeper into his endorsement deal, he said they were not actually paying him anything and he has not been in contact with them but he just likes ice cream and is “a big ol’ boy”…and there you have it.
GF NOTE: Fat Boy Ice Cream Products are available at Mariano’s Fresh Markets in Chicago.
Featured Bacon Product
Frequently, the staff at “And They Called It Pork” will stumble upon an item or product that uses the “Candy of Meats” to help make this crazy old world a much better place. This week, one of our researchers unearthed Mo’s Bacon Bar from Vosges Haut-Chocolate.
Vosges was founded in 1998 in Chicago and has incorporate applewood-smoked bacon into chocolate bars ranging from milk chocolate to 62% dark. Actually, Gregg tried this little item at the Lincoln Park store location and it was great.
If you are not in Chicago, Mo’s Bacon Bar is available by mail order or you can pick one up the next time you have a connection through Chicago-O’Hare Airport. It might help your attitude after dealing with Gummers.
Mark It Bacon Dude: Upcoming Events Featuring Pig Products
Leave it to the fine folks in Wisconsin to come up with a 5/10k race that features pork. On Thursday, June 14 at Wisconsin State Fair Park, The Race For The Bacon will be held.
That’s right, this is a run that is followed by a bacon-themed party that includes bacon-flavored food and beer.
Also, who needs a medal when the winners of the race will receive a package of bacon? GF NOTE: Pure genius.
The staff at “And They Called It Pork” would like to thank all the readers in Las Vegas who visited the blog this week after the review of Blue Chip Casino. Of course if you didn’t already know it, Blue Chip Casino is actually in Michigan City, Indiana…you’re welcome.
Recipe of the Week
As noted last week, the weather is warming and the grills are heating up. The following recipe is a great marinade that can be used on chicken, pork or beef.
Sockitome Asian Marinade
3 ½ Cup Pineapple Juice
1 Cup Soy Sauce
1 Cup Dry Sherry
½ Cup Red Wine Vinegar
¾ Cup Sugar
2 Teaspoon Minced Garlic
Combine all ingredients in large mixing bowl. Place in refrigerator and chill for at least one (1) hour.
That is all for this week…enjoy and stay classy.
QUOTE OF THE WEEK: “Also, Dude, Chinaman is not the preferred nomenclature. Asian American, please. “
