BLACK COMMUNITY LEADERS TO DEMONSTRATE AGAINST UNFAIR CONTRACTING PRACTICES BY CEDA WEATHERIZATION PROGRAM
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 1st@ 11:00 am
Black community organization activists will lead a public demonstration against CEDA's Weatherization workforce development practices for African American contractors and community residents. The demonstration and Press Conference is scheduled for THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 1st 11:00 am at 208 South LaSalle to shed light on the unfair practices of African American involvement in over $100M in last 3years. The lack of paying out invoices in a timely manner to General contractors with procurement to Davis Beacon wages ( the little man can not keep a payroll with non payment), the Roseland and Englewood community has complaints that most of CEDA Weatherization was done incorrectly. Although, most of Weatherization is in medium to low income households located in predominantly Black communities- less than 5% of the work was done by African Americans contractors.
We are asking for a Non Traditional "Demonstration project" from CEDA to train and employ 100 Community resident and remove the tarnished image of Weatherization practices. Currently, CEDA has 3 to 5 active Black Weatherization contractors out of 57 and over 9000 houses, in which 2000 houses are yet to be assigned to any contractor. We are asking for 200 houses, 10 assessment packages to train and do the work, and administration funds to facilitate the jobs to be done correctly
