Public Statement of Rev. Michael Carter, National President
"To The Honorable Dorothy Wright Tillman, Sister Jamilita Tillman, the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan, members of Board, staff and supporters of The Harold Washington Cultural Center in Chicago. On behalf of the 27 national chapters of National Black Wall Street USA, I am honored to offer our organizations support for the retention of this historic institution as a Black owned and operated institution under the leadership of The Tobacco Road Non Profit organization. My chief of staff and one of our national organization's spokespersons and Chicagoan Mark S. Allen will be in attendance at tonights town hall meeting as a show of our organizations national public support.
The National Black Wall Street USA and its 27 chapters across the country, in the spirit of the original Black Wall Street of Tulsa Oklahoma is engaged in a national campaign of sustaning and increasing Black owned and operated Black cultural business districts in majority Black communities and sustaining important institutions like The Harold Washington Cultural Center is very much a part of our national agenda.
I am pleased and honored to offer the ongoing partnership and support of sustaining the current ownership of this historic institution as well as directing our local chapter to actively support the ongoing promotion of the very important community resources that the Harold Washington offers from this historic Bronzeville community site and the empowerment for the Black community. You should know that my national chief of staff Mark Allen will soon be opening and directing a national chapter development and resource office at 4655 South King Drive, Suite 203 directly across from the Harold Washington Cultural Center and looks forward to developing an active and systematic working relationship with you in sustaining and increasing the support for The Harold Washington Cultural Center under the continued leadership of the Tobacco Road Non Profit Organization. Also, this new national Black Wall Street USA resource office under Mark Allen's leadership will be organizing the national support for the upcoming National Black Wall Street USA National Connvention being held October 21-23 in Gary Indiana.
Again, on behalf of the 27 national chapters of the National Black Wall Street USA we totally support the efforts to educate and mobilize Chicago's Black community around sustaining The Harold Washignton Cultural Center as an example that the spirit of the orginal Black Wall Street movement is alive and well with what Black people can do with their own ownership and direction in a historic majority Black community in Chicago and a shining example of what can be done in other majority Black communities in this country. And of course, tonights town hall meeting to awaken our community could be done no better that the voices of your legal team led by the outstanding young attorney Berve Powerand of course that the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan will bring to your efforts, and the National Black Wall Street USA is proud and honored to be a part of this important historic effort."
