When the least of God's people speak, the powers that be listen !!! Friends, On Tuesday, September 28th Illinois Governor Pat Quinn will make the formal public announcement that the funds have been approved to extend the jobs of thousands of at-risk youth in Chicago and across the state from The "Put Illinois To Work" program that were originally schedule to end on September 30th, and now extended until November 30th !!!

Thank you to all the workers, business owners, community and political activists who joined us during these past few weeks in sounding the alarm on the importance of saving these much needed jobs in our urban communities. I want to especially thank those business owners and associations that joined our statewide press conference on Friday, September 24th at the joint offices of The South Street Journal, Newspaper, Black Wall Street-Chicago, Black Leadership Development Institute, BLDI, and The Chicago Black Business Network, and along with Independent Candidate for Illinois Governor, Scott Lee Cohen and his running mate for Lieutenent Governor Baxter Swilley for lending their voices in challenging Governor Quinn to publicly acknowledge that his office was doing all it could to secure the extension funds.

I want to thank Michelle Saddler, Chief of Staff for Governor Quinn's office for responding to Friday's press conference that Governor Quinn's office was expecting information later that day that would be good news for the workers and indeed they did. Thanks to Chief of Staff Saddler for giving credit to the many grassroots groups and coalitions, that in addition to ours was fighting almost everyday to ensure that the funding and jobs would be extended past September 30th. And as I told Chief Saddler, we had to have these press events as we did this past Friday to properly reflect the level of desperation that was setting in with many of our workers could not even function properly with the unknown anxiety of the possible end of their jobs on September 30th and where that would leave them to survive.
