Music....it can mean various things to various people. For example, it could range from just something unimportant that they hear in the background at a party or in a doctor's office, to people who almost consider it a "religion" of sorts.

I happen to be one of those people that not just love it but consume it. Perhaps it consumes me.

I have a rather large poster that has a guitar in the center, and methodically arranged around it are phrases about music, and how it makes people feel. It includes phrases like, taps my toes, inspires me, makes me want to sing along, makes my soul ache, heals wounds, is fearless, etc. In big letters at the bottom, it simply states,  keeps my heart beating. I believe any music connoisseur would agree to all of these.

I literally grew up listening to a highly diversified mix of music, and as a result, it is one of my biggest passions, along with anything in the arts; especially theater, movies, and that occasional exceptional television show, like the first Sundance produced series, Rectify, starring Aden Young, Abigail Spencer (Timeless), and Clayne Crawford (Lethal Weapon). (if you haven't seen it, I HIGHLY recommend you stream it as soon as possible on Netflix).

My hope with this blog is to study different songs from different decades and genres and analyze their lyrics. Lyrics are obviously very subjective. They can change depending upon what you may be going through at that precise moment. Then there are those that can bring you back to the "exact" second you were when you heard it for the first time. I personally relish that about songs. It allows you to relive unique junctures in your life, whether positive or negative. Also, I find it intriguing how as I get older, songs I sang along to, and enjoyed as a younger person, because I liked the band or the "beat", the lyrics now have taken on a whole new context that I was either too young to understand, or they meant something completely different to a child’s mind. In my opinion, songs like these, are the ones that really hold up to the test of time.

I am eager to connect with other music enthusiasts, and hear your viewpoints on the songs I choose, and in turn, read about the songs and lyrics that have impacted YOUR life. Hope to hear from you!
