Turns out SNL was waiting for Gossman... Shelly Gossman.
It was rumored and then officially announced pretty fast this past weekend... after the "Get Famous" weekend of 2010, Shelly Gossman of the Second City Mainstage was hired by Saturday Night Live to be a writer. She moves out to NY in a few weeks to work on the upcoming season.
Here's a GREAT interview with Shelly detailing her life as a Chicago performer and specifically addresses the SNL auditions. Culled from the Britethorn website, and shot in the (upstairs) lobby of Second City, it's from almost exactly one year ago!
(editor's note: contrary to the comments in the above video, I don't think female improvisers are that rare.)
