Catalogue Commentary Creates Comedy

You may remember Molly Erdman from her great run of Sonic Drive-in commercials, but something she's doing online is causing a stir!

A few years ago, Molly and I were on the iO team "Bucket" together. We quickly bonded over our shared affection for the show "227" and I eventually was the first producer of The Winston Revue, a cabaret act she did with Rich Prouty. She played on the Second City Mainstage for several years, and then made the move to LA.

Back in June, just for fun, she started the website Catalog Living, where she writes captions for the photos from upscale catalogs. After a month of hilarious writing she's created a world for the inhabitants of this rattan, faux naval environment. "Gary" and "Elaine" share a dysfunction existence and host a lot of parties. Even though it's just one day short of being a month-old, the blog is popular enough that the Chicago Tribune's very own Steve Johnson wrote a great piece on it! Here it is.
Molly is an exceptional improviser and it shines through in her writing; the commentary is very funny and the best kind of satire, using the targets very own photos. A few years ago, Molly was in a show that I was so captivated by, I wrote an essay on it
For your entertainment, here's Molly in one of her Sonic commercials!
