It's gonna happen!
The Facebook page, "Betty White to Host SNL (please?)" has 448,000 fans and it looks like SNL is going to comply!
With the popularity of her recent Superbowl commercial this fanpage exploded onto the scene and CNN and People magazine both picked up the story. Personally, I've had a crush on her since the Mary Tyler Moore days. She was astounding as Sue Ann Nivens. A recent Entertainment Weekly article hinted that SNL was going to have Betty White host a "Women of Comedy" night with added guests, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and Molly Shannon. Why not have Betty host by herself? Who knows? Maybe it's Betty's choice... she is 88 after all.
But the bigger issue is SNL's response to a Facebook page! SNL's best rating last year had 7.8 million viewers overall. The Facebook page has only half a million fans. Is SNL conceding to the online community? After the wild online success of "Lazy Sunday", SNL moved the digital shorts pieces to the first 30 minutes of the show (traditionally, where the strongest material gets placed.)
Does this mean that SNL will continue to be influenced by online groups? What happens if a fanpage gets 2 million members? Terrible trend or just mere happenstance?
Here's a great montage from Betty White's A&E Biography:

I'd love to see Betty White, Carol Burnett and Vicky Lawrence host together.
