Welcome to the first round of our inaugural WIMis, the Worst Improvised Moments Awards! We have a great selection of celebrities, politicians, parents and more who, in a moment of crisis tried to improvise and failed magnificently.
Today, we'll see the first five nominees; all worthy contenders in no particular order:
1) Kanye West at the MTV Video Music Awards. He felt it and then said it immediately, regardless of what was going on at the time. Personally, I liked Beyonce's reaction the best.
2) It was a flash fire of fuck-up. In a vain attempt to become famous (and he did) Richard Heene reported that his son was adrift in a balloon and captured a nations attention for about 20 minutes. In fact, except for these year-end wrap-ups I don't expect to hearing much more about this soon-to-be Children Services client. But all that was part of the plan! The great improvised part was the next day on CNN! The Heene parents freeze up after Falon's confession.
3) Oh, Rod. That was some real great spinning. Rod Blagojevich tried to talk his way of trouble and into the hearts of the real jury, the American Public. He failed miserably. This is my favorite squirm moment:
4) Speaking of Dave, man-o-man, that story just got weirder and weirder, didn't it? His best moments are usually when he ad-libs and speaks off the cuff, but this was one scandal that even he couldn't talk his way out.
5) One of the greatest on-set rants ever... Christian Bale. To me, the best part is that he just keeps going.. people (even the director!) try to interrupt but he won't let them. He just keeps ranting and, technically, raving. I can't imagine you haven't heard it yet, here it is again, but this time with puppets acting it out (my friend Cesar made this vid):
