Surprise Applause

The improv team I've been coaching, on and off, for the past decade is iO's Deep Schwa.

It's had many great and storied members and has been rewarded for their consistency and longevity with a nice, comfy spot on Sundays for the past few years. It's the longest running team at iO; I think we're at thirteen years! They had a show this past Sunday that I'd thought I would mention.

At one point three cast members were standing on chairs and moving about. It was Danny Mora, Brian Wilson and founding member, Craig Uhlir. Craig wobbled a little bit and fell of his chair and landed prone on the stage. In a split second, Danny and Brian turned to see what happened and they both just kicked their chairs and fell onto the stage. The audience was laughing, then gasped, then instantly applauded. It all happened so fast and I loved that the audience didn't think about it, they just instantly appreciated that the two standing fellows decided to fall on purpose to join their friend. Their decision to fall and the audience's instant appreciation of it is just Reason #429 of Why I Love Improv.
Thank you.
