Being a freelance improv ronin (a masterless samurai), I have to go where the winds take me. I teach, I perform, I consult.
I'll be in Canberra with Impro ACT and then in Sydney to work with Improv Australia. And then some extra time for me to go Walkabout. I'm incredibly eager to see how the philosophies of Chicago's long-form translate to another country. Both theaters have long-running shows and casts and I'm carpetbagging a bit here (a word which has no meaning in another country and decidedly less and less meaning here). One of the things we'll be working on is a variation of Whirled News Tonight; with an emphasis on science-based articles. I will be on airplanes for 20 hours before I get to Canberra. Of course, I'll still be online so this blog will continue with some friends of mine contributing and with random updates from me about my trip/work in Australia. I have to take a moment to thank Cindy Tonkin, who has been absolutely incredible and instrumental in making this trip possible. I adore her. I'm originally from New York and I love that city. I moved to Chicago and fell in love. Maybe too much in love. I've been incredibly lucky with my improv teaching. I've taught improv, both to students of the art and corporate workshops all over the country; San Francisco, Miami, Toronto, Raleigh, Honolulu, New York, Tulsa, all wonderful cities. Now, off to Canberra, Sydney and Cairns! All for the glory of Sweet Lady Improv.
