No Mike Huckabee, America doesn’t deserve to burn for being secular

1stamendment

Speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), Mike Huckabee said he “knows” there’s a god. And of course, this isn’t just any god or idea of a greater intelligence, this would be specifically the god of the Bible. He wasn’t done. Not only does Huckabee claim to “know” there’s a god, but that without his god there would be no United States.

There’s a serious problem with this statement. Huckabee doesn’t know anything, he has faith. Faith and knowledge are not the same thing. Having “god with us” on their belt buckles didn’t mean the Nazi’s “knew” god was actually with them. It means they had faith god was with them.

As if his elitist and shamelessly ignorant claim about the founding of a secular nation wasn’t outrageous enough, Huckabee then went on to insinuate that the United States deserved fiery judgment, or god should give Sodom and Gomorrah an apology. Excuse me? Does this sound like a man who loves his country? Someone who wants us all on our knees repenting or his magical sky daddy’s going to kill everyone? And for what? What is the horrible thing that this country has done to deserve death? Why is Huckabee so ashamed to live here?

There is no doubt that the United States has made big mistakes in history, but we’ve also done a lot of things right. Freeing Africa and Europe from Nazi occupation. Sending food and aid to countries devastated by war to save countless lives. And doing this before god was on paper money or in the pledge. Ending slavery, granting women the right to vote, promoting equal rights. This country has made tremendous strides in social progress and continues to enjoy individual rights and liberties such as freedom of speech and freedom of religion.

Huckabee is not a patriot, he’s a self-loathing bigot. God did not write the United States Constitution nor is this country founded on Biblical principles. We did not allow our government to become a secular government, it always has been.

The Constitution begins with “We the People,” not “I the god of Abraham.” It is not a Christian nation any more than it is a Hindu nation. It is a country for people of all faiths, or no faith at all. It is a product of philosophy, called a “new experiment” at inception. It is not a theocracy nor will it ever be one. When comparing the First Commandment with the First Amendment, the difference is striking, the superiority of the latter is clear.

The first democracy was born in Athens Greece by people who worshiped Zeus. Rome was a republic long before they adopted Christianity as the state religion. Despite the facts, we still have delusional idiots like Mike Huckabee trying to tell us that secularism is a bad and the USA was created by god for Christians. These people insult the legacy of the Founding Fathers. They attempt to pervert the foundation of this nation.

Many of the founders were Christian, but still shared secular values and built a secular nation.
“The foundation of our Empire was not laid in the gloomy age of Ignorance and Superstition, but at an Epoch when the rights of mankind were better understood and more clearly defined, than at any former period, the researches of the human mind, after social happiness, have been carried to a great extent, the Treasures of knowledge, acquired by the labours of Philosophers, Sages and Legislatures, through a long succession of years, are laid open for our use, and their collected wisdom may be happily applied in the Establishment of our forms of Government”
George Washington, Circular to the States, June 8, 1783
