So I sort of like Scott Lee Cohen. I like him because he's an honestly terrible candidate. Most politicians...you have this initial impression of their pristine qualifications, their dedication to public service and you don't know the skeletons that hang in their closet - the gay lovers, the dead strippers, the cocaine parties with the Mineral Management Services - until it's too late. With Scott Lee Cohen, it's all out there for you to ingest and, if I know anything about the public, love. His chubby little nugget of a kid bawls on a Chicago public access television news conference and your heart melts. He's a gift.
He's also a gift to the Villa Park police department who, after hearing from the Trib that Scott's hooker ex-girlfriend was giving happy endings at a Glenview tanning salon, were able to bust up a whole tanning salon prostitution operation:
Villa Park police raided a "spray tan spa" Friday afternoon and
arrested six people suspected of engaging in prostitution a day after a
patron of the place told investigators that the business was supplying
sex as well as tanning services, according to Villa Park Detective Sgt.
Dan McCann......The business came to the attention of police in February after the
Tribune reported that a convicted prostitute who was the ex-girlfriend
of Scott Lee Cohen,
then the Democratic nominee for lieutenant governor, had worked for the
operation when it was based in Glenview under the name Eden Spa. Cohen
dropped his nomination following revelations about his personal life
and is now making an independent bid for governor.
Hilariously, there is nothing on his website to indicate that he has a position on crime control (although it appears he has issued several somewhat ironic anti-violence press releases) or the new government healthcare-mandated tanning tax. Someone should get on that.
