Chicago will soon be home to a bar where people can drink, eat, and roll initiative. Geek Bar Chicago will be the first bar in Chicago that caters to this growing community.
There are countless bars in Chicago where you can hangout, have a drink with your friends, and watch the playoff game for [insert sports team name here], but where do the nerds go to geek out about the newest Doctor Who episode or the hot new Syfy series? Geek Bar Chicago will be that place.
Geek Bar Chicago is planned to open in March of 2014, in or around the Lakeview area. They have funds to open a bar, but now they call on the aid of the community so they can thoroughly geek it out! The founders of Geek Bar started a Kickstarter campaign that will be ending in a couple of weeks.
All the money raised will go directly to making this bar amazing. They plan on having movie nights, a collection of games to play right at your table, and themed bars (complete with lab coat wearing bartenders, and geeky drinks).
Personally, I'm excited to know that they're having custom tables built so you can sit with your friends, eat delicious food, drink a health or mana potion (see above photo), all while you're playing a tabletop game. They are commissioning Chicago furniture designers to create 24 ft. long, extra wide tables, with swivel-out trays so your eating doesn't get in the way of your dice rolling.
All my gaming is done at home (or a friend's home), or at a gaming store. It would be awesome to have another outlet to go to, where I can have drinks with friends and still get our game on. I'm super excited that this sort of bar will be coming to my hometown, and I would love to check it out once it opens (is it 2014 yet!?).
There's still time left to help make Geek Bar Chicago amazing! Check out their Kickstarter Page HERE. They reached their original goal within the first 24 hrs. With the stretch goals, they hope to make this bar the stuff of legend. Check out their campaign video below. Also check them out on their Facebook Page.
