Believe it! This morning I received a text message from a friend that stated "Confirmed: live action Captain Planet movie!"
I, of course, had to google this info, and sure enough she was right!
Cartoon Network and "Transformers" producer Don Murphy and partner Susan Montford's Angry Filmworks are teaming together with "Transformers" producer to make a live action film about the environmentalist hero. (MTV.com blog)
Being a child of the 90s, I freaking LOVE Captain Planet! Yes, I made a Planeteer ring out of construction paper, and got way too excited when they combined their powers (and I recorded the end theme song onto a cassette tape).
The show had a diverse cast, action, and an environmental message for kids. A huge part of me is excited about this project, but I have to admit, a live action movie could be kind of terrible. It's hard for me to imagine this series in live-action form without it looking super cheesy.
Will this cartoon to live-action move go the route of The Smurfs movie, or Alvin and the Chipmunks? (AKA awful looking movies geared towards a younger audience)
Or could this movie go the way of the original live action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie? (AKA badass)
