Transformers 3 to ditch offensive Autobots

I've recently found out that the very controversial, ebonics speaking Autobots known as Skids and Mudflap (The Twins) will not be returning for Transformers 3. Transformers Director, Michael Bay told fans yesterday on his official message board that "The Twins are not back in T3." We all know they didn't die in the last movie, and I for one am looking forward to them being destroyed or just not appear in the third movie altogether. The Twins are the Transformers equivalent to Jar Jar Binks. You would think that someone with some authority on Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen would have said, "Oh, I don't know if these characters are a good idea." Honestly, what were they thinking? Transformers is in no way a cinematic masterpiece, but I enjoyed the first film a lot. I was very excited to see Bumblebee play a bigger role in the second film, only to have his parts overshadowed by these idiotic urban robots. Scott Mendelson of the Huffington Post had this to say about Skids and Mudflap in a 2009 article:

"...two bickering robots who look like monkeys, talk in the most stereotypical Ebonics jive possible, and apparently can't read. To say that these two are the most astonishingly racist caricatures that I've ever seen in a mainstream motion picture would be an understatement."

I would love to see more of Sideswipe, and maybe some new "likable" characters. I really feel like they were trying to replace the hip-hop personality that Jazz brought to Transformers in the first film, and it was executed very poorly. Transformers 3 will be filming in Chicago this summer starting in July, and is expected in theaters July 2011.

  • I hope that Transformers 3 will bring back the idea of a well-written script. I think that somehow they forgot that part of movie making for Transformers 2. Hah.
