Thoughts on Smallville's Season 9 Finale

--SPOILER ALERT--

If you haven't seen the Smallville finale yet, please do not read any further. There are massive spoilers here.

I was out of town this weekend on vacation, but I couldn't miss the season finale of Smallville. I was in the middle of making dinner when the show started, so I missed a few bits and pieces here and there (I will be re-watching this online). I have to say, I'm REALLY excited that there is going to be a 10th season.

The open for the show was probably my favorite of the Smallville series. We get a flash forward of 2013, and Lois is working at the Daily Planet for Perry White (as it should be in the Superman universe). It also seems that Lois knows about Clark's secret identity in this future. Also, according to the newspaper's head line, Lex Luthor is running for President. Could this mean Lex is in fact alive, and Michael Rosenbaum will be returning to Smallville!? A girl can dream right?

At the end of the flash forward we see a reflection of Superman stopping a plane from crashing into the Daily Planet. Then a present day Clark Kent gets a gift from Martha, which we only see reflected in Clark's eye...but we all know it's the Superman suit.

I was very disappointed with the lack of Justice League action in this episode. Hawkman, Cyborg, John Jones, Black Canary, and Stargirl all seemed to be joining Watchtower via Skype for the finale (yawn). When I found out these characters would be making cameos in the finale I was expecting some epic through-down between the Justice League and the Kandorians. Instead we get some lame video chat, with no super powers involved.

Lois finally knows Clark's secret (again). The Blur rescues Lois from Zod when she finds out Zod was using her to work against the Blur. The Blur kisses Lois in the dark, and leaves before she could see his face, but like a good girlfriend, she recognized Clark's kiss. Now lets hope in season 10, he doesn't try to lie his way out of it, or cover up his secret again. Lois can be trusted with the truth, and she's proven that more than once.

Tess Mercer is dead. I don't know how I feel about that. I suppose I'm not going to miss her much. She was a weird double agent that no one seemed to be able to trust. It seemed like she was a somewhat evil "good guy" in the end, and she tried to help Clark defeat Zod, but not before he could give her a two-face makeover.

Word on the street is that Granny Goodness is the creepy old woman we see in the hospital after Tess dies. If this is true, that means we could indeed see Darkseid in season 10.

In the end, Zod and the other Kandorians were sent to some Kryptonian
paradise. Maybe we'll get to see what this place is like in season 10,
maybe we haven't seen the last of Zod. Who knows? But I'm pretty sure
Clark doesn't die from that fall off the rooftop...otherwise it's going
to be a very boring season without the lead character.

Wow! Never have I gotten such a lengthy reply to a blog post. I did see the whole religious connotation to this new Kryptonian world the Kandorians were sent to. I'd be interested to see what the new world actually looks like. Is it a heaven or a glorified Phantom Zone? And could Zod really be gone that easily? I feel like they'll show up again before the series ends...

And the whole Doomsday thing is very possible also. Because Doomsday is below Earth somewhere...he's not dead. I'm very interested to see what happens next season though.
