Monday Lucasfilms announced that they were developing a Star Wars animated sitcom. When I heard the news it sounded like some kind of joke. Lucas seems to be milking this cash cow dry, if you ask me. I love Star Wars as much as the next nerd, but is this taking it too far? Seth Green and fellow Robot Chicken creator/executive producer Matt Senreich are creative consultants on this project. Green reassured the Star Wars fans that, "This isn't going to suck as much as you think it is."
The show is said to not be a sketch comedy show like "Robot Chicken," and it's
not a spoof. Matt Senreich said it will be a story comedy and "character
driven." It may include crossover appearances from the movie
characters. Senreich promised, "We're on the same page as the fans, because we
I have no idea how to feel about this. Personally, I think "Star Wars" and "sitcom" don't belong in the same sentence. It's a sci-fi action adventure! Unless they plan on creating some comedic parody like Robot Chicken (which they already said they weren't), how can fans take this show seriously? The Star Wars Robot Chicken
sketches are hilarious, but I don't know if this new show will work. Is Lucas going too far, or will this be a wonderful new edition to the Star Wars legacy? Only time will tell. I'll just have to wait and try to be optimistic about this (I'm not doing so well on the optimism right now).
