Costume Showcase: Speedy

Speedy from DC Comics

With all my costumes, I thought it would be a good idea to showcase
them so you can find out about the inspiration and construction of each
of them. Since I'm in a super Smallville mood at the moment (in light
of the resent news of the up coming season 10), I thought today I'd
showcase the only costume I have that's based off of a DC Comics
character.

My boyfriend used to be apart of a large Justice
League cosplay group. Before we started dating, he was the Flash, but
now he does Green Arrow. His Green Arrow costume is a merge of both the
comic version and the Smallville version of the costume.

Since we're
both cosplayers, I thought it would be awesome to do some sort of
couples costume, but I didn't have a Justice League costume. I had a
bow and arrow set just sitting in my room that I was going to use for
another costume that fell through. Then I remembered Green Arrow had a
side-kick named Speedy.

The
arrows that came with my bow were display only, and they were in this
small wooden quiver, so I found a quiver and arrows on ebay! The corset
I also found on ebay, which is probably the coolest part of this
costume. I find that when you do an "orginal design" of a character
it's WAY easier than trying to make something accurate. It also helps
because I didn't have a lot of time to come up with a comic accurate
costume. I'm extremely happy with how the costume turned out. Chicago Comic Con 2009 was the first time I wore this costume...I hope to wear it again at C2E2 in April.

Looks like it all came together nice. Where on ebay did you find that corset top?

  • In reply to Traeonna:

The eBay store is called Cloak Company! They have amazing medieval/renaissance dresses, cloaks, and corsets. I've bought two dresses and a corset from them. I definitely recommend them :)
