Understanding My Fiery Love and Adoration for Redheads

Understanding My Fiery Love and Adoration for Redheads
I love redheads! Yes, I do. I can not lie! It is a bit of obsession sometimes. I have had my love for them for a long time. Some redheads really make me weak in the knees.  Some redheads make me laugh. My sexy husband is a redhead and comes from a family of redheads.... Read more »

BOOM...BOOM...BOOBS! There Goes the Average Breast Cup Size!

BOOM...BOOM...BOOBS! There Goes the Average Breast Cup Size!
When my husband pointed this article out from Huntington Post, I was completely blown away about an article talking about an average boobs size. Come on! Seriously, people?! 34DD?! How the hell did we make such a huge jump in bra cup size?!  I know that there’s more of selection than 20 years ago, but... Read more »

Beat the Heat and Humidity While Being Active

Beat the Heat and Humidity While Being Active
We are officially in the “dog days” of summer with this heat and humidity that we are dealing with.  This is the time of the year that I can honestly say that I dread, but I have learned over the years to be smarter when I want to be outside with the temperatures and heat... Read more »

How to Safely Use the Chicago Lakefront Path

How to Safely Use the Chicago Lakefront Path
With summer in full swing, I know that there has been an increase of patronage on the Chicago Lakefront Path by runners – both casual and those training for the Chicago Marathon, cyclist, and casual tourists.  Most people that I have encountered on my evening weekday runs and during my long runs have been respectful... The Real (Body) Weight Issue: Seeing Past the Blurred Image

This is me currently at around 143-144 lbs on a cleaner diet and training for a marathon (and throwing in a few squats in between).
After reading this article, I had the wheels in my mind turning to create this article that I am writing. It really got me thinking about how the world views body image especially for women who are athletic. It is constantly talked about through social media for as long as I can remember. Celebrities are... Read more »

Faux Pas Things that You DO NOT do in Chicago

Faux Pas Things that You DO NOT do in Chicago
Unless you have been seriously living in a bat cave or sleeping under a rock, you saw that Justin Bieber did the unthinkable in the Chicago Blackhawks locker room by standing on the team logo while getting a picture of the Stanley Cup and just recently apologized for it.  It really made Hawk fans boiling... Words from a Firefighter's Daughter on the AZ Deaths

Words from a Firefighter's Daughter on the AZ Deaths
This morning when I opened up Facebook, I kept on seeing posts about 18 firefighters from Prescott, AZ losing their life in the wildfire.  At first, I could not believe it.  But as I saw more and more post, I started to feel very sad for the families of the firefighters that have been affected as... Greetings, Chicago Suburbanites! Welcome to Active Suburbia! My name is Denise, but I am known as Firefly, Red, and "Hey there". I will be your tour guide to everything active within the Chicago suburbs. In this blog, I will be your guide to places within the Chicagoland Suburbs that will help lead a more active lifestyle and a lot of fun too. In fact, studies have shown that reading this blog will bring a smile on your face, a spring in your step, and burn those last nasty 5 lbs that you can't get off. (Ok, everything's true except for the last one that hasn't been proved.....YET, but I am determined to make it true.) Here's a short introduction about myself: I am a very active person. You can say that I have endurance, determination, grit, and hard work in my bones. I enjoy running and cycling. I have completed a couple of marathons, half-marathons, 5K's, etc in my running career. I also enjoy trying most things active and willing to explore if I have to. I enjoy checking out the trails near me and doing a lot of running. I also enjoy teaching Pilates and yoga. I am also a suburbanite living in the awesome suburb of Berwyn. I am a suburban girl at heart and love every minute of it. I originally grew up in the frozen tundra of the Twin Cities. I am also a die-hard sports fan and enjoy the competitive nature of it. I love baseball, college and professional football, and even hockey. I am always interested in finding more fun places within the Chicago suburbs. If you know of a gem, shoot me an e-mail at activesuburbia@gmail.com. You can also follow me on Twitter too.
