Military lands in Ferguson, Missouri. What's wrong with us?

The Military has landed in Ferguson, Missouri and enacted martial law. For all intensive purposes, this is exactly what has happened.

These images aren't of the IDF soldiers in Gaza or ISIS Militants trying to overtake an Iraqi town, this is a local SWAT team sent out with heavy weapons pointed at unarmed and peaceful protestors in Missouri!  The protestors were out to speak out against the shooting death of an unarmed youth by a police officer.

If the insanity of the police heavy handedness here wasn't bad enough, they even arrested two reporters. The reason for the arrest? "not packing their bags quick enough"

"The officer in question, who I repeatedly later asked for his name.. grabbed my things and shoved them into my bag," Huffington Post's Ryan J. Reilly said. "He used his finger to put a pressure point on my neck."

"They essentially acted as a military force. It was incredible," he said. "The worst part was he slammed my head against the glass purposefully on the way out of McDonald's and then sarcastically apologized for it."

Since then the Police have declared the protests as no longer peaceful and started firing tear gas into the crowds.

Reports coming in from the ground include accounts of a civilian  screaming  "I'm dying. I'm dying. Please call help." The police response? Mocking the victim.

The insanity of this heavy handed police action in Ferguson should have the entire nation outraged.  From enacting a virtual martial law to arresting reporters all backed by military style weaponry the action here is unacceptable on all levels. That the reason for the people standing up and protesting in the first place was the murder of an unarmed youth by the police just adds to it. The police are not soldiers in a foreign land fighting insurgents and protesting a crime does not justify such a response.

We as a nation need to focus on our own communities and hold all those responsible for these actions accountable. We spend so much time fighting and arguing with each other over what's happening half a world away while this happens on our own streets.

Let's start a new initiative and put America First. An America that is neither Black or White nor Christian or Atheist but one nation, PERIOD.
