Starting today, car2go will become the first on-demand, free-floating carshare service of its kind to operate on the streets of Chicago. To celebrate, car2go kicked off their launch this morning with a special performance by the Jesse White Tumblers in Pioneer Court and will be activating downtown until 5pm today. Make sure to stop by to register for car2go and receive free goodies. Sign up now for FREE at www.car2go.com/US/en/Chicago to access car2go’s fleet of 400 eco-friendly smart fortwos and Mercedes-Benz vehicles.
How does it work?
Like a rental car, but way better. The innovative, free-floating carshare model allows members to make one-way trips without having to pick up or return car2go vehicles at fixed locations or by a certain time. Members can conveniently end trips in any approved parking space within car2go’s Home Area, including on-street residential permit parking and designated car2go spaces.
Chicagoans can register today for free by using the code CHI2018. They’ll also receive $15 in car2go credit. The offer is valid through August 23, after which new car2go members only pay a standard one-time $5 sign-up fee. Members can pay by the minute or through a Trip Package which lets them reserve a car for up to two days.
What are the benefits?
Whether you pay by minute or use a car2go Trip Package, car2go has short-and-long-term options to fit your travel needs. What’s better: the cost of carsharing with car2go is often less expensive than the cost of ridesharing. Members never have to worry about the cost of parking, insurance, vehicle maintenance or fuel, annual or monthly membership fees and there’s no surge pricing ever. Members get the convenience of on-the-spot mobility without the costly responsibility of car ownership.
Free-floating carshare also brings numerous environmental and quality of life benefits. In 2016, the University of California, Berkeley released a study proving that car2go’s free-float carshare model cuts traffic congestion, reduces air pollution and integrates with other transit and transportation options, thereby helping to move more people, more efficiently while reducing air pollution and overall vehicle miles travelled.
